N-acetylcysteine (NAC) is receiving a lot of press these days as it is used in the prevention and treatment of respiratory viruses. Actually, NAC has been around for some time and plays a role in multiple bodily systems.
NAC is an amino acid that is known to help the body generate glutathione, a powerful antioxidant. This is good news for people who cannot readily detoxify due to the MTHFR gene or for people with compromised immunity who are sensitive to the buildup of toxins in the body. In fact, NAC is such a powerful antioxidant that it has been used for years to treat overdosage of acetaminophen (also more commonly known as Tylenol). But every day we are bombarded with chemicals and toxins, and NAC can help mitigate the oxidative damage and resulting inflammation.
Some harmful organisms have the ability to hide from the effects of antibiotic therapy and even from the body’s own immune system. NAC helps to reveal these organisms so the body can deal with them. In fact, NAC helps the body to enhance its own microbiome, which is great news for those working on replenishing healthy bacteria to the digestive tract.
NAC also helps improve glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity, stabilizing blood sugar. Though PCOS is a multi-faceted disorder, blood sugar balance is a component, and NAC can come to the rescue.
While cysteine is found in foods high in protein, it becomes essential if the body cannot produce it from other amino acids. The heart, lungs, immune system, kidneys and liver all benefit from this amino acid.
As always check with your healthcare provider, especially if you are taking blood thinners and/or blood pressure control medications.
Three Cheers for: ZUM Bar Goat’s Milk Soap
Goat’s milk soap may seem like the latest fad, but GMS has been used for thousands of years. GMS is rich in natural fats and won’t strip the skin of its natural moisture or good bacteria like most commercially available soaps. GMS also contains nutrients to restore and rehydrate dry skin. GMS is also rich in alpha-hydroxy acids which naturally exfoliate skin, removing dead skin cells, revealing a healthy glow.
Check out ZUM Bar Goat’s Milk Soap in refreshing scents like: Peppermint-Ho Wood, Geranium-Patchouli, Amber, Clove-Orange, Frankincense-Myrrh, Lavender-Mint and Sandlewood Citrus, www.indigowild.com
