This warning could prompt many homemakers to go on strike! Actually, it is not the work that could make you sick, it may be the cleaning products.
Whereas our grandmothers relied on natural, inexpensive cleaners, we commonly use commercial cleaners which are formulated using harmful synthetic petrochemicals. Such chemicals are known carcinogens (cancer causing chemicals) and neurotoxins (nervous system damaging chemicals). Due to their volatile nature, these chemicals are not easily dispersed, causing indoor air to be highly concentrated with toxins.
Cleaning chemicals enter the body through the skin and lungs and accumulate in the body. Some symptoms of cleaning toxin exposure include:
- irritability
- fatigue
- respiratory infections
- memory loss
- headaches
- dizziness
For safe cleaning, consider borax, white vinegar, baking soda and lemon juice.
